Alpacas
produce some of the finest fiber in the world. Their fleece is
lighter, warmer, softer and stronger than the best merino wool; it
doesn’t itch and is so pure it is practically hypoallergenic. Hand
spinners prefer it to cashmere and mohair for its diversity of colors
and the ease with which it cards, spins and weaves. Our in-home Farm
Store has many wonderful examples of imported and domestic finished
goods made with alpaca fiber. As time passes, local products created
from the fiber of our own herd will be added to the inventory.
Drop by to see and feel this wonderful fabric. Exceptional
Christmas gifts at prices lower than department stores for this
luxurious fiber.
Memorial
Day weekend there was a collective shearing down in Shushun, NY and
our gang got their summer haircuts much to their relief as 4 to 5
inches of fiber is a bit much when the temperature begins to climb.
Now you can begin to see that Mistique is carrying a baby cria, she is
due in August with Merit to follow about a month later.
Our daughter Maxanne found newborn
kittens abandoned outside her
apartment so Virginia is in the process of raising two of them. Bob
and Italy could be barn cats by summer’s end. The alpacas are
comfortable and well fed and hoping from a visit from you real soon!
Well
the kats are growing and Sandler - a rescue project brought in
by our older daughter Claire has joined the bunch. They spend a
lot of the daytime out at the barn, but come in at night.
Keeping the mice down at least.

The
show season went well with Luis, Pedro and Isabella winning numerous
ribbons in Springfield, Harrisburg, Louisville and
Syracuse. The fall has brought 3 new cria to our farm:
Meriano, Nina and Cy. And some human cria as well.
